DAY TWENTY ONE… Rest day & sight-seeing

We had a day of sightseeing in Tabriz… the Blue Mosque, destroyed by an earthquake in 17thC and reconstructed painstakingly. Ali insisted on taking us to the Azerbaijan Museum, where we saw ancient artefacts and a mouth-watering exhibition of carpets, including a spectacular copy of a huge ornate room sized piece, of course, the original was in a London !!

Then the highlight and the beginning of our love affair with Iranian shopping…. the bazaar…. full of absolutely EVERYTHING. Amazing…. Sweets (of course), biscuits, hardware, dried fruit, spices, tea, clothes… It’s the biggest covered bazaar in the world and one of the oldest in the Middle East.
