DAY FOUR… 59 miles (94.5 km)… plus 8 miles extra to search for Alysun’s cycle pants

Tim’s back was very bad this morning after 4 nights on his lilo with a hole in it. (He brought the wrong one from home) . Otherwise the night was quiet. The morning was wet due to overnight rain but it was a promising start with sun. I was trying to dry my cycle pants today on my pannier rack but they fell off outside “huit a huit” (eight to eight) supermarket and it was miles before I clocked that. I tried to cycle back to find them, but it was unsuccessful.

We discovered that getting food or any supplies in France is a virtual impossibility without going miles out of town. Today we had to search for camping gas and food. We discovered a horrid shopping complex where we managed to get some camping gas, some more cycle shorts and a rather thin camping mat for Tim.

Arrived at St Florent le Vielle to heavy rain. The campsite was almost deserted. It had a sheltered washing up area which we used as a kitchen. We had a wet night with a wet inner tent.

Cloudy damp morning, passing through a village with an inquisitive dog. And Alysun’s cycle pants still drying on her pannier rack.
