DAY FIFTEEN… 48 miles (77 km)
Disturbed night. My head torch came on for some reason in the middle of the night and would not go off again. I felt very vulnerable being so close to a road and a railway line in just a little tent. But we woke to a beautifully sunny morning with no eventualities, except a man who drove up to the field we were camped in and began trying to extract worms from the soil.
A lot of travel along small roads today, following the Canal du Centre. We arrived in the massive and endless city, Chalon-sur-Saône, with a blue and lovely looking river. The town itself was horrible, with huge shopping complexes. Tim went off into one of these in search of camping gas. After lengthy discussions with shopkeepers he eventually got some but we now know that it is extremely hard to come by I was really exhausted by the time we arrived, and slightly feverish. We found a very quiet campsite and camped near a wooden hut so we could have a kind of table.
