DAY SIX… 46.68 miles (75.01 km)
Up at the usual time of 5.30am for a 6.15am set off. We are still in the heart of the Chambal, but apart from being ripped off at a chai stall (20p instead of 10p), all has been well.

Any way the bandits have been converted into village chieftains now. In fact, all my fears of bandits have been laid to rest. These people are leading very simple lives. They are simply curious about us, and friendly too.

We stopped for a 5 minute rest by what turned out to be a small rural school. Everyone came out to look at us and we had a lot of fun with them, taking their pictures and showing them what they looked like. I don’t think they had had their picture taken before.

Long, long section on a dual carriageway today (30 miles) then smaller rural roads which I much prefer, winding through the heart of the Chambal, to our haveli in Gwalior.
