DAY TWENTY
At last, a quiet day with just a few final arrangements… taxi for Anna and Suzy, and bike packing. For us, a few messages to cyclists in Chhattisgarh and Odisha to cyclists who we had previously contacted from the UK and who showed an interest in cycling with us. We thought it would help to have a local person with us in case people were hostile or worse, attacked us.
Our expedition today was a stroll to the shops. Not without its excitement and perils. A giant cobra, about 6 foot in length slithered near to us, then, later that day, as I walked with Suzy back from a tribal village, another cobra shot between her feet and right in front of mine. I grabbed Suzy to stop her stepping on it.
Tonight, there is more excitement. Anna and Suzy discover their treasured food supplies have been eaten. More alarming, the culprit is not a mouse, but a rat and it has just been discovered in their bedroom.
