DAY THIRTEEN… 62 miles (99 km)

Morning was wet and misty but we made fast progress on flat and tarmacked paths to Grein (16 miles). It was beautiful. The mist was rising over the river.

Looking for bread & cake in Grein
Another ferry across the Danube

Looked for a very long time to find a wild camping spot, cycling miles and miles, but the land between the river and the cycle path was only about a metre. Not enough for our tents. In desperation we camped next to three villages and pretended to be stopping for a picnic until it got dark, then we put up our tents.

We are now sitting on a little bench opposite the toy town village of Spitz, vineyards on the hills above and the church and castle beautifully illuminated, with river boats passing by with lots of little lights. Lots of excited villagers and passing us on bikes dressed in Dirndl and Lederhosen! They returned about 2 am!
